You can Help By Calling Your Legislator Today!
Dear Cannabis Reform Advocates,

Here are the instructions. Thanks for helping out on this.

Step 1. Download the petition

Step 2. Collect the signatures
Collecting signatures should be a fun and friendly process. To get started we suggest that you first approach people you know and trust. Have a BBQ or house meeting where you can privately talk about the subject and collect signatures. As you gain more confidence you can move on to the general public, or join us at local concerts and large gatherings of all varieties. For signatures to count all signers must be registered voters and residents of Wichita. The petition need not be filled with 15 names, but each blank in the completed rows must be filled in with correct information.
People who need to register to vote can go to https://www.kdor.org/voterregistration/default.aspx  and follow the instructions for sending a photo of your birth certificate at the end of the online registration process.

Step 3. Notarize the sheets
It is required by Kansas Law that the collector of signatures swear before a notary that they have collected all of the signatures. For this reason it is imperative before signature sheets are turned in that this process is completed. We can assist you in finding a notary if you need Dillon’s typically has notary services at the courtesy booth, and local banks are another common place for this type of verification.

Step 4. Turn signatures in
All petitions must be collected centrally in early July and handed in all at once or they will be counted separately and will not add up to the 5000 needed. For the Wichita Campaign to End Criminal Penalties On Marijuana please bring or send 1-15 signatures to:
Peace Center 1407 N. Topeka (near 13th and Broadway)
M,W,F 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Attitudes about Marijuana (Cannabis) are changing across the country. Research about the uses for Cannabis and Hemp is supporting its effectiveness and safety for medical and other industrial purposes. The Drug War has focused much more on Marijuana than any other of the more dangerous drugs, and has utterly failed to reduce the consumption of Marijuana in the US. And yet, while some states have recognized the futility and harm of continuing to arrest and imprison people for their private use of Marijuana, we have work to do in Kansas before we can hope to have Marijuana available legally for patients who could benefit from it, or for others who wish to engage in adult use as an alternative to the more harmful effects of alcohol.

Our mission therefore, is to educate and advocate for changes in the law in three areas:

Medical marijuana,
Agricultural hemp, and
Legalization or decriminalization of marijuana for responsible adult use.

We also work with other organizations addressing other impacts of the war on drugs, such as mass incarceration, asset forfeiture, and civil rights.

Please consider becoming a member and join us in our mission to provide a voice that reflects the changing public opinion regarding the drug war, and to achieve reform of Kansas laws including the passage of legislation to allow the beneficial use of medical marijuana, responsible adult use, and industrial hemp for farming.
